October 6, 2000 Giant Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a top Taiwan bicycle manufacturer, reported that bicycle deliveries from its domestic factories increased during the first eight months of this year. Giant’s domestic production facilities, which focus on high-end bicycles, sold 660,762 bicycles during the January to August period this year, up a sizeable 25.23 percent over last year’s totals. A spokesperson for the company noted that Giant is well on its way to reaching the goal of delivering one million bicycles this year, with recent sales accounting for 66 percent of that total. In August of this year, the company delivered 72,795 bicycles, up 8.14 percent from the 67,318 bicycles sold during the same period last year. The company’s eight-month revenue from domestic production increased more than 46 percent from the same period in 1999. This considerable jump is partially due to an increase in average bicycle sales prices this year, confirmed the spokesperson.
