Not only will Giant Manufacturing Co. soon be producing lithium battery powered auto-cycles, but Taiwan's leading bicycle manufacturer will also begin producing scooters in September of this year. Spokespeople at Giant predict that the scooters will sell extremely well, especially considering the fact that the price has dropped significantly over the last few months. Currently, the average price per unit is between NT$2,000 and NT$5,000, down from an earlier level of NT$8,000. An exceptional sales season for scooters in 1999 previously encouraged several other bicycle manufacturers in Taiwan to enter the scooter production market, and with the addition of Giant the situation will likely become even more competitive.
