The Falcon Cycle-Parts Co. has opened production lines at its Taiwan factory for several newly developed transmission parts, including a 3-speed internal transmission system.

The highlight of the system is that it works with no external gears or shifting, as all the action is enclosed in the hub of the rear wheel. The 3-speed system, which was designed for comfort bikes and city bikes, also includes a shifter cable and a gripshifter. Another of Falcon's new Taiwan-made products is a high end index rear derailleur featuring plastic parts.

The derailleur is designed for racing bikes and boasts "mega-range". Falcon decided to manufacture these high end parts in Taiwan to make the most of its existing facilities in Taichung County, as much of the company's low end has moved to its China plants, one company official said.
