November 15, 2001

Chia Cherne Industry Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of bicycle cables in Taiwan, reported that it recently entered into joint ventures with two counterparts in mainland China, one in Shenzhen, Guangdong province and the other in Jiangying city in Suzhou province.

While the production from the company's joint venture plant in Shenzhen will be supplied to customers in southern China, the output from the Jiangying factory will go to the eastern China market, according to an executive of the marketing services department.

The joint ventures are significant in that they will result in the manufacture of more competitive bicycle products and will allow the companies to provide better services to their customers in southeastern China, the executive added.

Among other honors, in 1996 Chia Cherne won the 5th National Award for Small and Medium Enterprises, while in 1997 it achieved "Little Giant" status, as determined by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
